I'm Jordan Mazur. I built the legal and compliance infrastructure that took Lively from early-stage startup to regulated fintech. Now I bring that same capability to early- and growth-stage companies that need sophisticated legal guidance at the stage they're actually in.
Litigation Foundation
I started as a plaintiffs-side labor and employment litigator, handling complex disputes where companies' futures were on the line. That training gave me something most in-house counsel never get: the discipline to see around corners, the rigor to build defenses that hold, and the judgment that comes from high-stakes litigation experience. When I'm reviewing your vendor contract or building your compliance program, I'm thinking about how it holds up under pressure, not just whether it closes.
Building at Scale
After litigation, I moved in-house to build. At Zenefits and Rakuten, I specialized in product, privacy, and regulatory compliance for high-growth tech companies navigating GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, employment law, and financial services regulations. Then I joined Lively as their first legal hire and scaled the function through multiple funding rounds, building legal, compliance, privacy, and later HR from scratch while the company navigated fintech and healthcare regulatory frameworks simultaneously. By the time I left as General Counsel, I'd built the infrastructure that let Lively operate in one of the most regulated intersections in tech: healthcare and financial services.
Privacy, AI Governance, and Compliance
I hold all three major IAPP privacy certifications (CIPM, CIPP/US, CIPP/E), credentials that most fractional GCs simply don't have. When your product touches customer data in regulated industries, privacy isn't a checkbox. It's existential. I've designed and implemented end-to-end privacy programs that satisfy regulators, protect customers, and scale with growth. I also counsel companies on AI governance: how to build, deploy, and contract around AI systems in ways that hold up to regulatory scrutiny and enterprise procurement requirements.
